GETTING READY TO MOVE

At
least one month prior to moving into your new home, decide which items
are going with you and which are going to charity, a garage sale, or the
dump. When it comes to packing, tackle the job one room at a time. Begin
with the least used items in the garage, basement and attic. Then proceed
through the living/dinning rooms, great room, bedrooms, and finally the
kitchen. Use a variety of cartons, sealing tape and marking pen. Use either
bubble wrap or newsprint for protective wrap (avoid newspaper, which contains
ink). Try to arrive at your new home one day before your belongings to
check that the utilities are connected and major appliances are in their
correct places.
Your real estate
professional can give you some additional tips on preparing for your big
move. Though it may be tempting to write an inventory on each carton, it's
safest to only number them and identify the contents only on a master list
(that stays with you). When the truck arrives at its destination, make sure
you can account for all the cartons. For help with all your real estate

Hint: Tranfer your
homeowner insurance to your new home for the day of your arrival to protect
your home and personal property from fire and theft.
